Holbox (in Mayan : black hole, black hole) is a small Mexican island located in the extreme north of the state of Quintana Roo , 10 kilometers off the northeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula . In the vicinity of Cabo Catoche , and during the colonial era, a Catholic temple was built, which is known as Boca Iglesia. There are no passable roads to reach Cabo Catoche by land, only by sea can it be accessed to visit the ruins of Ekab and Boca Iglesia .
